Ever wondered what the difference between digital and traditional marketing is?
Digital marketing is essentially any marketing that is executed online. It is broadly recognised to be more efficient and effective than traditional types of marketing as consumer demands are met more easily and consumers have better access to specific information.
Traditional marketing types include advertising, public relations, sponsorship and sales promotions. These traditional marketing techniques can also be seen online so they are not specific to television, radio or brochures as many advertisements can still be posted as marketing communication on social media platforms. For example, a company may choose to share their advertisement on both online platforms, such as Facebook, as well as on television.
There are three main media types in the digital age. These are: paid media, which mostly consists of traditional marketing; owned media, which is what the organisation owns, operates, and monitors and finally, earned media, which is extremely beneficial as others are promoting your organisation which leads to brand loyalty.
Not for profit organisations should utilise digital marketing and knowledge about the three media types to gain a more extensive level of interaction with consumers. It enables them to provide up to date and easily accessible information and an opportunity to deepen customer relationships.
